The Information Fusion Center – South Atlantic (IFC South Atlantic) is a regional initiative established within the Brazilian Navy’s Maritime Operations and Protection of the Blue Amazon Command (COMPAAz). Activated on 3 November 2026, it contributes to Maritime Domain Awareness by bringing together and sharing maritime information to support decision-making, strengthen maritime security and safety, and promote cooperation across the South Atlantic.
The Center’s area of interest encompasses approximately 40.3 million km², including Brazil’s Blue Amazon, which covers about 5.7 million km². In a region connecting the South American and African coasts, maritime cooperation and the timely exchange of information are essential to understanding activities at sea and addressing shared challenges.
Operating under the framework of the South Atlantic Peace and Cooperation Zone (ZOPACAS) and in coordination with the South Atlantic Maritime Area (CAMAS), the IFC South Atlantic seeks to strengthen collaboration among participating navies, coast guards, maritime security agencies, and other partners. The Center complements existing initiatives, including the Information Fusion Centre for Latin America, by encouraging information exchange and cooperation between regional centers.
The IFC South Atlantic supports the collection, integration, and analysis of maritime information and the dissemination of products and alerts in accordance with applicable rules and authorization procedures. Its work may contribute to the identification and understanding of maritime incidents, threats, and risks, including illicit activities, safety concerns, and other events affecting the maritime domain.
Digital tools such as IORIS support information exchange among authorized participants. Through cooperation with partner institutions and other information fusion centers, the IFC South Atlantic aims to improve the shared understanding of maritime events and encourage coordinated responses across the region.
The Center’s effectiveness depends on the participation of its International Liaison Officers and partners, who contribute regional expertise, institutional connections, and information relevant to their areas of responsibility. By bringing these perspectives together, the IFC South Atlantic seeks to foster a more connected maritime community and contribute to a safer and more secure South Atlantic.
